47 Day Maritime Adventure Trek – Itinerary (subject to change)
Day 1 - St. Andrews, NB We begin our trek with a welcome wine and cheese party, orientation and social hour. We depart soon on our Maritime Adventure.
Day 2 - St. Andrews, NB Tour Ministers Island and see Sir William Van Horne’s summer residence built in 1890.
Day 3 - St. Andrews, NB The “Jolly Breeze of St. Andrews” is a classic Tall Ship built in New Zealand and specializes in providing a wonderful and memorable experience sailing across the Passamaquoddy Bay viewing seals, whales and other wildlife on this 3.5-hour tour.
Day 4 - Saint John, NB Travel to Saint John. Along the way view quaint fishing villages. Saint John is a historic and vibrant city on the Bay of Fundy, known for its unique blend of urban charm and natural beauty. Highlights include the Reversing Falls Rapids, where the tides create a fascinating natural phenomenon, and the historic Saint John City Market, Canada's oldest continuously operating farmers' market. Scenic parks like Irving Nature Park and Rockwood Park. Rich cultural scene with galleries, theaters, and local breweries. It's a walkable city with plenty to discover, from its 19th-century architecture to its lively waterfront.
Day 5 - Saint John, NB Saint John Bus Tour, a guided tour of Historic Saint John visiting many attractions including Reversing Falls and the Old City Market.
Day 6 - Hopewell Cape, NB Travel to Hopewell Cape, NB a stunning destination located along the Bay of Fundy, famous for its Hopewell Rocks, also known as the "Flowerpot Rocks." These unique sandstone formations, shaped by the world's highest tides, are a must-see attraction. At low tide, visitors can walk on the ocean floor and marvel at the towering sea stacks topped with trees. At high tide, the same formations can be explored by kayak, offering a completely different perspective. The area also features walking trails, panoramic lookouts, and an Interpretive Center with multimedia exhibits that explain the geological and cultural significance of the site.
Day 7 - Hopewell Cape, NB See the Hopewell Rocks Ocean Tidal Exploration Site. Walk on the ocean floor at low tide as you explore the Flowerpot Rocks. Visit the multi-media exhibit in the Interpretive Center. Tour Cape Enrage lighthouse station standing atop the 150-ft ocean cliffs overlooking the giant tides of the Bay of Fundy.
Day 8 - Baddeck, NS Travel to Baddeck, NS a picturesque village nestled along the shores of Bras d'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island. Known as the gateway to the world-famous Cabot Trail, Baddeck offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor adventure. One of the highlights is the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, which celebrates the life and achievements of the famed inventor. Baddeck is a hub for sailing enthusiasts, with opportunities to explore the lake aboard catamarans or enjoy scenic boat tours. The village is also home to Kidston Island, featuring a lighthouse and a sandy beach perfect for relaxation. For nature lovers, the nearby Uisge Bàn Falls Provincial Park offers hiking trails leading to a beautiful waterfall. The village hosts cultural events like ceilidhs, where visitors can enjoy traditional Cape Breton music and dance. Local restaurants serve fresh seafood, including lobster suppers that are a must-try.
Day 9 - Baddeck, NS Visit Alexander Graham Bell Museum focused on the great inventor, featuring models of his work, mementos & interactive exhibits. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing Bell's groundbreaking work in communication, aviation, and more. The site also offers stunning views of Bras d'Or Lake.
Day 10 - Baddeck, NS A Discovery Bus Tour of the World-famous Cabot Trail - Along the way, you’ll learn how to catch lobsters, spot a bald eagle or moose and watch for pilot whales feeding off the coast. We’ll stretch our legs in the beautiful Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and you can dip your toes in a cascading waterfall. In the French Acadian community of Cheticamp, we’ll visit with local folk artists and browse in the gallery.
Day 11 - Grand Codroy, NL We line-up early at the ferry terminal for our 7-hour crossing of the Cabot Strait to Newfoundland. On board watch for whale, enjoy lunch in the cafeteria, a drink in the lounge, watch a movie or just relax with a good book. After we arrive in Port aux Basque, Newfoundland, we travel north to the campground in Codroy.
Day 12 - Codroy, NL Narrated bus tour of Grand Codroy visiting the Wildlife Museum, Port aux Basques and the Rose Blanche Lighthouse. At the campground we will have a welcome to Newfoundland party “Screech In”.
Day 13 - Rocky Harbor, NL We travel to Rocky Harbor located in scenic Gros Morne National Park, Rocky Harbor is a picturesque coastal village. Be sure to stock up on seafood at the wharf.
Day 14 - Rocky Harbor, NL Bonne Bay boat tour in Gros Morne National Park. See wildlife and sea life as you explore the inland fjord of Western Brook Pond. We will also visit Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse at sunset. A 19th century lighthouse with a museum & visitor center offering exhibits.
Day 15 - St. Anthony, NL Travel to St. Anthony, nestled on the northern tip of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula, St. Anthony is a charming town brimming with natural beauty, rich history, and unique cultural experiences.
Day 16 - St. Anthony, NL Today we will visit L'Anse aux Meadows where we will see a Viking settlement; the earliest known settlement in the New World. We will also visit a recreation of Viking life; The Norstead Historical Presentation with a recreation of a Viking Village staffed by helpful guides in period costumes.
In the evening, we attend the Viking Feast. The Great Viking Feast provides a humorous look at Viking life. Their merry band of Vikings lets you steal the show at the Viking court after feasting on some of the most unique and delicious food you will encounter during your travels.
Day 17 - Rocky Harbor, NL Free day to explore Gros Morne National Park, Western Brook Pond, hiking trails, wildlife watching or fishing the water around Rocky Harbour.
Day 18 - Botwood, NL Travel to Botwood. We will visit the Botwood Mural Arts Society unique cultural experience. This organization has transformed the town into an outdoor gallery, showcasing 13 large-scale murals that celebrate Botwood's rich history and vibrant community spirit. Among these masterpieces is the largest mural in Atlantic Canada, spanning an impressive 9,000 square feet.
In the evening we will have Moose Stew a traditional dish with deep roots in the region's culinary traditions, especially among Indigenous communities and rural areas where moose hunting is common. Moose stew is often served with fresh bread or dumplings to soak up the savory broth.
Day 19 - Twillingate, NL Travel to Twillingate, NL often referred to as the "Iceberg Capital of the World," is a picturesque town located along Newfoundland and Labrador's northeastern coast. You can marvel at towering icebergs drifting through Iceberg Alley during the spring and early summer months, or enjoy whale watching as these majestic creatures grace the waters. Twillingate also boasts scenic hiking trails, such as the Lighthouse to Lower Head Trail, which offers breathtaking coastal views and a visit to the iconic Long Point Lighthouse.
Day 20 - Twillingate, NL Today we will get up close & personal with icebergs & whales and stunning coastal scenery aboard a guided boat tour in the waters surrounding Twillingate islands.
Day 21 - Princeton, NL Travel to Princeton, NL a hidden gem that offers visitors a tranquil escape into nature's embrace. Surrounded by stunning landscapes.
Day 22 - Princeton, NL Trinity, NL guided historical walking tour an entertaining and time traveling experience. Take a self-guided walk-through Dungeon Provincial Park, a natural scenic attraction park, see a collapsed sea cave and a natural archway carved by the sea. Puffin viewing at Cape Bonavista Lighthouse - Built in 1843, the light at Cape Bonavista is one of the few in the world where you can still climb up the stone tower and see the same seal oil fueled catoptric light apparatus that was used in the 1800s. One of the most photographed places in Newfoundland, this is a prime location to view whales, icebergs and puffins.
Day 23 - Fortune, NL Travel to Fortune, NL a charming coastal town that serves as the gateway to the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Located on the Burin Peninsula, Fortune offers visitors a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and cultural experiences. The town is known for its scenic coastline, vibrant community spirit, and thriving ocean fishery industry. You can explore local attractions, enjoy recreational activities, and savor fresh seafood at cozy restaurants. Fortune is also home to the Fortune Head Geology Center, where you can discover fascinating rock and fossil collections and learn about the area's geological significance.
Day 24 - Fortune, NL Day ferry to St. Pierre and Miquelon. St. Pierre and Miquelon is a small archipelago lying a few miles off the south coast of Newfoundland. France had been awarded the islands to shelter their fishing vessels, but rivalry over fishing brought St. Pierre fishermen in constant conflict with their Newfoundland neighbors. As a result, the islands changed ownership on several occasions and it wasn't until 1815 that the islands remained in French hands permanently. The islands have long been a French colony, later an overseas territory, and now a Collectivité Territoriale. Enjoy a day in France exploring the many shops before returning
Day 25 - St. Johns, NL Travel to St. Johns the vibrant capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town is a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Known for its colorful Jellybean Row Houses and lively George Street, the city offers a unique charm that delights visitors. Explore the iconic Signal Hill National Historic Site, where the first transatlantic wireless signal was received, and enjoy breathtaking views of the city and harbor. A visit to Cape Spear Lighthouse, the easternmost point in North America, provides a dramatic coastal experience. For history and art enthusiasts, The Rooms is a must-see, combining a museum, art gallery, and archives that showcase the province's rich heritage.
Day 26 - St. Johns, NL Guided bus tour that showcases the region's rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. We will see iconic landmarks like Signal Hill, Cape Spear, and the colorful Jellybean Row Houses. We will also explore charming fishing villages such as Quidi Vidi and Petty Harbor. This tour is led by passionate local guides, this half-day tour provides fascinating insights into Newfoundland's heritage while offering stunning coastal views and memorable experiences.
Day 27 - St. Johns, NL Today we will have a tour via boat to puffin & whale watch. This tour offers an unforgettable marine wildlife adventure. Day 28 - St. Johns, NL It’s your day today, take time and stroll through downtown to admire the colorful Victorian row houses, a symbol of the city's vibrant spirit. Visit Johnson GEO Center: A geological interpretation center with exhibits on provincial geology, oil and gas exploration, and even the Titanic disaster. For the evening check out George Street, a two-block stretch renowned for its nightlife and entertainment. With the highest concentration of bars and pubs per square foot in North America, George Street is a hub of live music, delicious food, and lively gatherings.
Day 29 - St Johns, NL Another day to go and explore on your own, Fort Amherst: Explore underground defensive tunnels and enjoy spectacular views while learning about its strategic role in history. The Rooms: A cultural facility housing a museum, art gallery, and archives, offering insights into Newfoundland and Labrador's history and art.
Day 30 - Ferry back to NS Today we take the ferry from Argentia, NL to North Sydney, NS. This will be a 17-hr. ferry crossing you will have a private cabin to yourself (they have pet friendly options). You can spend your time aboard unwinding on deck or relaxing indoors, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy the journey. Take in the panoramic vistas as you stretch your legs on our spacious sun deck, catch up on your favorite movies and shows with OnDemand entertainment, and savor a delicious meal with breathtaking ocean views. You will arrive refreshed and ready for your next adventure in Nova Scotia.
Day 31 - Louisbourg, NS We travel to Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, a captivating destination steeped in history and natural beauty. Located on Cape Breton Island, this coastal town is best known for the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest historical reconstruction in North America. Visitors can step back in time to the 18th century, exploring the daily life of French colonial settlers through costumed interpreters, interactive exhibits, and authentic dining experiences. Beyond the fortress, Louisbourg offers stunning coastal trails like the Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail, which leads to Canada's first lighthouse, built in 1734. The town also boasts charming fishing wharves, scenic beaches like Kennington Cove, and cultural venues such as the Louisbourg Playhouse, where music and theater bring the community's spirit to life.
Day 32 - Louisbourg, NS Fortress of Louisbourg - Step back in time to 1744. Experience Louisbourg, a thriving seaport and capital of Ile Royale (Cape Breton Island). The Fortress was one of the busiest harbors in North America during the 18th Century and one of France's key economic and military centers in the New World. Today it stands as North America's largest historical reconstruction. The Louisbourg Lighthouse is a historic gem. This site is home to Canada's first lighthouse, originally built in 1734, marking its significance in maritime history. The current lighthouse, constructed in 1923, stands proudly on the rugged cliffs overlooking the harbor entrance, offering breathtaking coastal vistas. The trail is a must do, it winds through scenic landscapes and provides stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Fortress of Louisbourg.
Day 33 - Louisbourg, NS The Cape Breton Miners Museum in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, is a fascinating destination that pays tribute to the region's rich coal mining history. Situated on a picturesque 15-acre site, the museum offers visitors a chance to explore the lives of miners and their families, as well as the industry that helped shape Cape Breton Island. One of the highlights is the Ocean Deeps Colliery, an underground mine tour led by retired coal miners who share firsthand stories of their experiences. The museum also features exhibits on the geological development of Cape Breton's coalfields, mining techniques, and the challenges faced by miners. Visitors can stroll through the Miners' Village, which includes a recreated company store and a period home from the 1850–1900 era.
Day 34 - Sherbrooke, NS Today we travel to Sherbrooke, NS nestled along the St. Mary's River on the province's Eastern Shore. It is best known for Sherbrooke Village, Nova Scotia's largest living history museum. For nature enthusiasts, the nearby Liscomb River Trail System provides scenic hiking opportunities, while the river itself is popular for fishing and kayaking.
Day 35 - Sherbrooke, NS Sherbrooke Village, Nova Scotia's largest living history museum, which transports visitors back to the 1860s. The village features over 25 heritage buildings, including homes, businesses, and workshops, where costumed interpreters bring the past to life. Visitors can explore traditional crafts like blacksmithing, weaving, and pottery, and even dress in period attire for a unique experience. The McDonald Brothers' Sawmill is a highlight, showcasing the importance of timber in the region's history. The village also offers activities like gold panning, heritage skills workshops, and photography camps.
Day 36 - Halifax, NS Today we travel Halifax, NS the capital of Nova Scotia. Halifax is a dynamic coastal city offering a mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. Highlights include the Halifax Citadel, a historic fortress with panoramic views, and the bustling Halifax Waterfront, perfect for dining and exploring. You can enjoy fresh seafood, stroll through the Victorian-era Public Gardens, or delve into maritime history at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, with its vibrant arts scene and scenic coastal charm.
Day 37 - Halifax, NS Today we take the Halifax City Tour where you will see many famous sites in Halifax including the Titanic Graveyard, site of the 1917 harbor explosion, the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site to name a few stops. We will attend the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo the world’s largest annual indoor show featuring over 2,000 world-class Canadian and international military and civilian performers, the event continues to live up to its reputation as one of the world’s premier cultural and entertainment events.
Day 38 - Halifax, NS We will explore the city by both land and sea. This amphibious adventure takes place aboard a retrofitted military vehicle, offering unparalleled views of Halifax's landmarks, landscapes, and architecture. The tour begins on land, winding through Halifax's streets and climbing to the top of the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site for stunning city views. Then, the vehicle splashes into the Halifax Harbour, transforming into a boat to explore the waterfront, Georges Island, and other harbor attractions. The tour is fully narrated, with guides sharing historical facts and entertaining anecdotes throughout.
Day 39 - Lunenburg, NS Travel through some of the most beautiful farmland and rolling landscape in Nova Scotia to Lunenburg on the Atlantic coast. Your journey to the South Shore will be full of stories of this beautiful and historic area. You will hear tales of rum running, fishing, boat building and legends about the pirates of Oak Island. Travel along the shore to the home of Nova Scotia's largest fishing fleet - Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 40 - Lunenburg, NS Today’s boat cruise offers a unique opportunity to experience the charm of Nova Scotia's maritime heritage aboard a replica of the iconic Bluenose schooner. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of sailing on a Grand Banks fishing schooner. During the cruise, you'll have the chance to explore the open decks, interact with the crew, and take in stunning views of the harbor and coastline.
Day 41 - Lunenburg, NS The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic offers an immersive experience into the region’s rich maritime heritage. Located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the museum features exhibits on life in a fishing community, the history of the fishing industry. You can explore wharf-side vessels, enjoy films at the Ice House Theatre, and browse through the museum's living fish exhibit. The museum also includes a gift shop, the Salt Store.
Day 42 - Granville Ferry, NS Today we travel to Granville Ferry, NS, a quaint and picturesque community located near Annapolis Royal on the province's Southwest Shore. This charming village offers visitors a peaceful retreat with stunning views of the Annapolis Basin and the surrounding countryside. One of the highlights is the Victoria Beach Lighthouse, a historic landmark that provides scenic vistas of Digby Gut and the ferry crossing. Nearby, the Schafner Point Lighthouse adds to the area's maritime charm. For history enthusiasts, the North Hills Museum showcases an impressive collection of antiques in a beautifully restored saltbox farmhouse. Granville Ferry is also known for its agricultural offerings, such as Halliday Farms, where visitors can enjoy fresh Nova Scotia blueberries. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the area's natural beauty through canoe rentals and wildlife tours offered by local providers.
Day 43 - Granville Ferry, NS Fort Anne National Historic Site, is Canada's first administered national historic site and a treasure trove of history. This site has witnessed centuries of conflict and settlement, from the Mi'kmaq people to Scottish, French, and English settlers. You can explore the Officer's Quarters Museum, which houses artifacts and exhibits detailing the site's history. The grounds feature earthen fortifications, cannons, and a powder magazine dating back to 1708, making it the oldest military building in Canada.
Day 44 - Granville Ferry, NS Port-Royal National Historic Site, located in Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia, is a remarkable destination that showcases one of the earliest European settlements in North America. The site features a reconstruction of the Habitation at Port-Royal, originally established by French colonists in 1605. This replica offers you a glimpse into the daily lives of settlers, including their innovative practices like the Order of Good Cheer, which helped maintain morale during harsh winters. A Graveyard Tour at Fort Anne National Historic Site is a unique and atmospheric experience. This guided walking tour takes you through one of the oldest English graveyards in Canada, offering a blend of history, mystery, and storytelling. Led by an experienced heritage interpreter, the tour explores the lives of those buried there, the meaning behind graveyard art, and the fascinating stories etched in stone.
Day 45 - Borden-Carleton, PEI Borden-Carleton, PEI is best known for its proximity to the iconic Confederation Bridge, which connects PEI to the mainland. This small town offers a mix of history, culture, and scenic beauty, making it a delightful stop for visitors. Gateway Village is a destination, featuring shops, restaurants, and the Borden-Carleton Visitor Information Center, where you can learn about the area's history. The Marine Rail Historical Park provides insights into the town's maritime and railway heritage, with exhibits and photo opportunities. For a taste of local flavor, visitors can enjoy fresh seafood at nearby eateries or indulge in a scoop of ice cream from the famous COWS Creamery. The Port Borden Lighthouse is another highlight, offering picturesque views of the Confederation Bridge and the surrounding coastline.
Day 46 - Borden-Carleton, PEI The Anne & Gilbert Musical is a beloved production based on the sequel novels to Anne of Green Gables. This heartwarming musical explores the evolving relationship between Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe, blending humor, romance, and memorable music.
Day 47 - Borden-Carleton, PEI Today we depart on an all-day tour, "Land of Anne". View rolling farmlands, stunning seascapes, tiny villages and bustling harbors along the Blue Heron Drive as we get ready to tour the North Shore area. Brief photo stops at quaint little fishing villages, lighthouses and the world class Cavendish Beach. Tour on your own at Green Gables House - This old farm site inspired L.M. Montgomery's first novel, Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. A must stop for a leisurely riverside lunch (not included) will be at Prince Edward Island Preserve Company, located in one of Canada's prettiest villages. Go back in time at L.M. Montgomery's Birthplace and explore special exhibits on display. Browse through the craft shops in the area before we drive on to French River, where you will enjoy a breathtaking combination of blue water, green rolling hills, and red soil-the perfect photo opportunity! Our final destination will be the Lake of Shining Waters that inspired L.M. Montgomery at Silver Bush and Green Gables Museum.
